CELEBRATING THE MUSIC OF THE WOODSTOCK FESTIVAL
August 12, 2022 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
$20 – $25
Performing brand new takes on the music of Richie Havens, The Dead, Santana, The Who, Janis Joplin, and more at Colony in Woodstock NY
Intrepid voyager Joel Harrison brought this show to Woodstock in 2019 (Fifty years after the festival). They raised the roof with joyful renditions of the timeless music that still gives the town of Woodstock so much of its identity. Now once again a crew of NY State’s finest musicians will explore this seminal music. Everett Bradley, Nicki Richards, and Keith Fluitt are some of NYC’s most sought after singers, having performed with Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Madonna, Patti LaBelle, Michael Jackson, and many more. The whole crew has performed with and led countless bands whether rock, jazz, roots, or world music. Expect a wild ride, a celebration with plenty of peace, love, and rocking good times.
Guitarist, composer, arranger, lyricist, writer, educator, and vocalist Joel Harrison has “created a new blueprint for jazz” (New Orleans Times-Picayune). A Guggenheim Fellow (2010) he has released 23 CDs as a leader on seven different labels. Harrison’s music may be founded on jazz but veers into classical, rock, country, and all manner of American roots music. Succinctly described by the New York Times as “protean… brilliant,” he is also an active film composer, having worked on the Oscar-nominated Traffic Stop and the Sundance awardee Southern Comfort. Harrison is the founder and director of the Alternative Guitar Summit, a yearly festival devoted to new and unusual guitar music. The festival has featured such artists as Nels Cline, Bill Frisell, Julian Lage, and Pat Metheny, who has called the Summit “one of the most interesting and distinguished forums for guitar on the planet.” He is the author of “Guitar Talk: conversations with visionary players.”
